From our southernmost perch of the Conch Republic, these 32 films—three features, 14 indie shorts, 15 student films—plus five screenplay finalists, survey the hopes, dreams, and nightmares real and imagined of our wildly diverse and dynamic state.
These filmmakers look north to our winter-birding second homes and then south, with nostalgia, to the places we once called home. And their broad-ranging subjects—from high schoolers in Lakeland to grieving parents turned activists in Parkland to the Fantasy Fest revelers of our own Key West—show us a vast and unique mosaic of who we are and where we live.
And because environmental issues have grown increasingly critical to our state and its visual artists, we have curated a special selection of ecological and oceanic shorts from around Florida and the greater Americas, which will be announced next week with our other regional shorts program.
