GOLDEN KEY AWARD FOR BILLY CONNOLLY AND 20th ANNIVERSARY of THE ARISTOCRATS
It’s the 20th anniversary of the movie about the dirtiest of dirty jokes, which also was a transgressive insider joke among comedians who made it new with every telling. And somehow, the entertainer Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller) manages to all of them – or almost 90 anyway – into this documentary, to either deliver some portion of their own version or talk about the joke’s fascinating history.
Johnny Carson, who said it was his favorite, famously declined. The variations are so (literally) excreable and vulgar that you’ll just have to see the movie to find out, but we are happy to share the punchline, which if you haven’t already guessed is: “The Aristocrats!” The Key West Film Festival is proud to present its coveted Golden Key award to Billy Connolly, featured in the film. “
Festival programmer Michael Tuckman elaborates: “‘The Aristocrats’ broke both box office records and a new ceiling for the for laughter levels in theaters when it was released 20 years ago, and Billy’s performance in the film shows his rightful place among comedy giants. From acclaimed roles in “Mrs. Brown” and “The Last Samurai” to action heroes in “The Boondock Saints” and “The Hobbit,” to his ability to charm international audiences with his wit and candor on stage and screens big and small, he’s an international treasure living right here in Key West.”
