French-Vietnamese filmmaker Trần Anh Hùng (“The Scent of Green Papaya”) adapted this culinary romance from Marcel Rouffe’s 1924 novel “The Passionate Epicure,” which revels in the love affair between a top chef (played by Cesar award-winner Benoît Magime) and his personal cook (the iconic Juliette Binoche), and the magical menus that follow.

THE TASTE OF THINGS, wrote Variety critic Guy Lodge, compels audiences “entirely on the pleasures of beauty, vicarious indulgence and, eventually, the human care inherent in haute cuisine.” Known as “The Pot-au-Feu” in France, the film is the country’s official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film for the 2024 Academy Awards.
