Beloved Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters, KWFF 2018) returns with a new drama, focused on South Korea’s “baby box” phenomenon, by which newborn infants can be safely abandoned for others to care for. Two men (Cannes best actor prize winner Song Kang-ho, and Gang Dong-won) collude to steal the babies and sell them on the black market. That’s where the intrigue – which includes a young mother with second thoughts, and a pair of detectives – begins.
