Lights, camera, action! The Key West Film Festival starts November 18.
The coronavirus pandemic prompted some significant changes to this year’s ninth annual Key West Film Festival, but some of the innovative new measures will likely prove to be popular events even post-pandemic.
One such adaptation is the first-ever “boat-in” movie at Stock Island Marina Village on Saturday, Nov. 21. The film festival has turned social distancing requirements into a Key West original. The double-feature boat-in includes Gene Hackman in “Night Moves,” and “Cuba Reframed,” a local film about the Schooner Wolf’s peace mission to Cuba.
Key West, FL (October 6, 2020) The Key West Film Festival (KWFF) revealed its plans today for the 9th annual festival, set for November 18-22, 2020. Building off the mantra of “Passion Meets Paradise,” the festival will be embracing its tropical paradise setting by moving all screenings to outdoor venues across the island. Each venue will feature socially-distant seating and masks will be required throughout all screenings. Full COVID-19 policies will be released in the upcoming weeks.
Key West Film Festival announced today that Kimberly Peirce and Tom Skerritt will receive the prestigious Golden Key Awards at this year’s festival, running November 20-24, 2019.
Peirce, a Florida native, will be honored on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the release of the groundbreaking film Boys Don’t Cry. The festival will screen the film on Friday, November 22, and Peirce will join Eugene Hernandez from Film at Lincoln Center for a discussion at the screening. To mark the 40th anniversary of the seminal sci-fi film Alien, fellow honoree Tom Skerritt will have a Q&A with Rolling Stone’s David Fear at the Thursday, November 21 screening. The film will be preceded by a screening of the award winning short film The Phantom 52, which premiered at Sundance 2019 and stars Mr. Skerritt. Director Geoff Marslett will also be in attendance.
